Stories from the S.H.E.D. - Pilots and Soldiers of the Caribbean a Sutton Connection (Workshop)
This workshop l took place on the 18th of August at Sutton Central Library and was about the connection between the Spitfire and the Caribbean Servicemen who flew them.

Very little is known about the black Spitfire pilots if anything, so it was a great opportunity to showcase them. To get a feel for the story Maureen put together a workshop that would comprise a presentation to tell the story, (with RAF personnel on hand), artifacts from WWII from the RAF museum to try on and handle, an opportunity to land and take off virtual planes and music from a young black classical orchestra; all in all, a very interactive event. There was also a display of medals belonging to Johnny Smythe the pilot navigator of WWII and more.
